Raymond Bartholomew Kelly, Class of 1946

Raymond Bartholomew Kelly, Class of 1946, passed away April 27, 2017. He was 88. Mr. Kelly was a retired attorney and shareholder at Hall-Estill Law Firm in Tulsa, where he and his family moved in 1971. He served in the army in the Korean War, for which he was awarded four medals. Mr. Kelly also studied for the priesthood at Boston College before pursuing his law degree at Northwestern University. Martin E. Murphy, Class of 1934

Martin E. Murphy, who was inducted into the Leo Hall of Fame in 2016, died Feb. 10, 2017.  He was 100 years old and a retired postal worker. After he retired, he was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels. Robert J. “Bob” Kelly, Class of ’43, passed away Dec. 31, 2016, in Tennessee. At the time of his death, he was among the oldest living people to have played professional football. He had played with the Los Angeles Dons from 1947 to 1948 and the Baltimore Colts in 1949.  John Knight, Class of ’77, reports his brother, Dan Knight, Class of ’76, passed away Dec. 20, 2016, after a battle with cancer. Mr. Knight was an alderman in Park Ridge. Visitation was Dec. 22 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. in Norridge. It has been reported to the Alumni Association that another brother has passed away. Lawrence A. “Larry” Divers, Class of 1979, passed away Dec. 22, 2016, after a short illness. A celebration of life will be held Jan. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. at O’Rourke’s Office, 11064 S. Western Ave., Chicago. Jack Schaller, Class of 1943, passed away May 28, 2016. Mr. Schaller was was a local celebrity who owned and ran the oldest continuously operating bar in Chicago, Schaller’s Pump. He served his country with loyalty and pride in World War II, and was proud of his many children and grandchildren. David A. Hennessy, Class of 1944, passed on Feb. 16, 2016. Mr. Hennessy served as a tank driver in the Army in the Pacific in World War II. He was
one of the original members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society when the program started at St. Barnabas in the 1950s. He is survived by two nieces and two nephews. Michael Urban McDermott, Class of 1932, passed on Oct. 8, 2015, at age 101. Mr. McDermott supported the Alumni Association throughout the years, serving as president. At his death, he was living in Marco Island, Fla. He was founding owner of M and D Provision Co. at Chicago Stockyards, the No. 1 Notre Dame fan and avid golfer and handball player. Visitation was on Oct. 12 4at the Curley Funeral Home, Chicago Ridge, and a funeral mass was said Oct. 13 at Christ the King Church. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
